Karakuri Doll

I’ve met my customer, he want to orders Auto Cutting and Packing machine. He was request me that i have to design as little as possible using electrical or pneumatic actuator. I have to adapt karakuri doll concept.

What is Karakuri doll??? Let’s Check this out!

Karakuri ningyō (からくり人形?) are mechanized puppets or automata from Japan from the 17th century to 19th century. The word karakuri means “mechanisms” or “trick”. In Japanese ningyō is written as two separate characters, meaning person and shape. It may be translated as puppet, but also by doll or effigy.[1] The dolls’ gestures provided a form of entertainment.

Three main types of karakuri exist: Butai karakuri (舞台からくり, stage karakuri?) were used in theatre. Zashiki karakuri (座敷からくり, tatami room karakuri?) were small and used in homes. Dashi karakuri (山車からくり, festival car karakuri?) were used in religious festivals, where the puppets were used to perform reenactments of traditional myths and legends.

They influenced the Noh, Kabuki and Bunraku theatre.

Karakuri technique might have come from over the sea when friendship with the mainland China and the Korean peninsula started in Japan.
It is recorded that the oldest karakuri work was a Sinan-sha (a compass vehicle) presented to the ancient Japanese Emperor Tenchi, and that it took 9 years to create this present in the Chronicles of Japan.
Sinan-sha, which is South Pointing Chariot in English, is a vehicle on the top of which the doll of hermit is always poitning south.
In the Chinese classic sotry, Sangokushi, it is used for checking the direction in heavy fogs in battles.
Complete Dashi karakuri (Parade float karakuri ) and Zashiki karakuri (Indoor karakuri) were created in Muromachi period when a Western mechanical clock came to Japan with Nanban culture by a Portuguese ship. People showed a big astonishment for the clock which automatically worked, and it had a big influence on Japanese workmanship. However, this karakuri was still seen only by some of the nobility.

In peaceful Edo period, Japanese culture civilized.
The karakuri technique progressed by craftsmen’s humorous ideas and manual techniques.

An ingenious clockmaker, Konoe Takeda, started adopting the karakuri technique to a Japanese puppet drama called ningyo-johruri, and set out to play it on the stage throughout Japan. Simultaneously, Dashi karakuri also became more powerful and gorgeous thanks to springs and gears from the new technique.
It was a great innovation for the people. The combination of Eastern technique, dashi karakuri and the Western mechanical clock created the new Japanese technique. What’s more, Karakuri-zui (Illustrated Complication of Machanical Art), a book about the principle and diagrams of karakui motions was published. This was the first attempt that the confidential workmanship was opened to the public.
Karakuri attracted the people, and they started creating new techniques around the country.
For example, karakuri tansu (a trick chest) was created by a witty carpenter when Tokugawa family (the most powerful military family in Edo) asked well-known palace carpenters to make a shrine and a castle.
He used the popular karakuri technique to make a chest of drawers.
Also, there was another production of an unusual cash box which could float in the water if a ship was sinking and which cannot be opened easily in order to keep important documents or money safe. They all used the great karakuri techniques.
It intrigued Europeans, and had a great influence on their automata at that time.
The Edo period indeed saw an exchange of technology between East and West.

Advantage Lucy

Advantage Lucy is my favorite band. Simplicity and happiness is extremely exquisite in their songs.

Advantage Lucy is a Japanese indie pop/neo-acoustic band. They play songs influenced by 60s janglepop, Swedish pop, and pretty much anything else that makes people feel good. Presently comprising vocalist Aiko and guitarist Yoshiharu Ishizaka, the group was formed in 1995 as a four piece, named Lucy Van Pelt after the Peanuts character of the same name. A fixture on the indies scene, Lucy Van Pelt released several records on the God’s Pop Records imprint, growing their fan base countrywide through frequent club gigs, in-store appearances, and other special events.

In August 1998, the band changed its name to advantage Lucy per the request of the Peanuts trademark holders, signing several months later with Toshiba-EMI and releasing the EP Citrus e.p… After several singles, the band made its full-length major label debut in May 1999 with Fanfare, following up the next year with another full-length, Station. Both records featured Aiko’s fresh, yearning vocals, backed up by Ishizaka’s melodic, jangly guitar guitar work and a stylish yet sincere image, making them an instant favorite with Tokyo’s trendy kids. At the height of the band’s popularity, guitarist and founding member Takayuki Fukumura left the group around this time to form the band Vasallo Crab 75 (he sadly passed away, not yet thirty, due to heart disease in 2003). The group, already operating with no full-time bassist, decided to press on as a trio.

advantage Lucy established their own label, Solaris Records, in January 2001 with the intention to start afresh, immediately releasing the mini albums Oolt Cloud and Anzu no kisetsu in March and April respectively. Additionally, in May of the same year Toshiba-EMI released a “best of” record containing selected tracks from 1996 to 2000 – an honor rarely bestowed on young “indie” bands. Shortly thereafter, tragedy struck again when drummer Kaname Banba developed a condition that rendered one of his legs unfit for drumming, and he too left the group. Reduced to its creative core of Aiko and Ishizaka, advantage Lucy continues to gig frequently with part-time members on drums and bass, and maintains an extremely loyal fan base.

Here some advantage lucy video. Enjoy ;)

Polman Bandung a.k.a. Swiss Polytechnic for Mechanics-ITB

First phase – torment

In 2005, i was start study in Polman for design engineering subject. Honestly i didn’t know anything about design engineering, i don’t even know how to use compasses. The first day in study about machine element i was fell asleep, very embarrassing, some of my friend called me “herman ngantuk”. I was not enjoyed and interested to study about it. Tortured is the right word for me in the first 3 semesters. But if i remember my parent’s hope, i got the spirit to face and through this hell. Fortunately, i have 23 friends in the same class that always support me, so i can survive till 3rd semester.

Rising Phase – Internship program

In 4th and 5th semester we have internship program, fortunately i was placed in Winteq astra otoparts. Winteq is company that produce Special Purpose Machine for industrial equipment. Even the lunch menu is not very interesting (ayam ikan telor, generally only telor is available) i can study much there. I started enjoy to become design engineer, i understand how important the design was. I’ve done my best there. I was involved 37 SPM design projects, and 50% are manufactured. In that time i am proud to become design engineer and i want to be a professional design engineer.

Cry Put 25

When i was in Swiss Polytechnic for Mechanics i met a very talented musician, his name is Sansan Mauludin. He has strange personality, he never care about his appearance yet he has very good tasted music. On 25rd December we were cried because of watching Naruto anime about a very sad menma’s story, and after that we made a song that is Cacing Kremi. In the middle of producing process we think about our name we decide our name is Cry Put 25, the name is also similar to Kerod 25 (kriput 25). We made music just for fun, we don’t care if somebody told our music is horrible or something. More than 90% our music is created by Sansan the monkey fighter. Here some of so many Cry put 25 songs.
